About Me

Hi, I’m Lisa

I get to know people and I write their stories.

Stories of the hopes and dreams, of new life, of love stories and of a life lived.

How would you like your celebration of life to look?

Together we can create the ceremony you want, celebrating your life’s key moments, fitting your needs and giving you lasting memories of love, hope and peace…as you ride the waves of life!

Much of my career has been in the education sector - teaching in schools, enabling community groups, encouraging business team training and delivering Heritage Learning - most recently managing the Education Department at Exeter Cathedral.

I love the theatre and the parade of rituals, I like that they bind people and communities, but not everybody relates to a religious reflection – that’s where I come in.

Before taking my teaching degree, I worked as an Outward-Bound Instructor, I’m a Forest School Leader, and I’ve worked backstage in the theatre – I love performance and the creative arts, exploring heritage buildings and activities that take me outdoors.

Capturing the perfect tone and sentiment for each occasion, guiding people through a unique service and writing all the magic of a life story, is a skill I have fine-tuned over the years in my various guises. As a celebrant all my qualities combine beautifully for this perfect role. I’ll gently guide and support: you, provide you with options and make you feel secure on the day.

If you are planning a ceremony to celebrate an engagement, have a wish to renew your vows, celebrate a birth or new member of the family, or honour the life of a loved one - I will work with you to reflect your values, motivations and spirit.

A Wedding Celebrant

Unlike traditional officiants, such as religious leaders or registrars, wedding celebrants work closely with couples to design a ceremony that reflects their unique love story, values, and preferences.

This can include customising vows, incorporating special rituals, and choosing the location and tone of the ceremony. Celebrants often focus on making the experience intimate and meaningful, ensuring that every couple's vision for their wedding day comes to life, whether it’s a grand celebration or a simple gathering. Couples will have complete creative freedom to make their day how they want it to be – how lovely!

What is the Difference Between a Celebrant and a Registrar?

In the UK, the difference between a celebrant and a registrar is this: one usually offers out a standardised script for the ceremony; whilst the other creates a unique, bespoke service, with just you in mind - to suit your surroundings, your themes, your guests and your love.

The registrar - a government official, will conduct legally binding marriage ceremonies within the framework of civil law. They ensure all legal requirements are met and marriage certificates are issued.

A wedding celebrant in the UK, is your creative collaborator in crafting a personalised and memorable ceremony for the occasion. They specialise in celebrating love in a way that reflects your unique story, values, and personality, often directly involving other family members or friends in the rituals, allowing for greater flexibility and fun. Celebrants can conduct ceremonies in various locations – this could be picturesque gardens, serene beaches, or even your favourite local spot - without the restrictions of registered venues.

Of course, you can opt to for both worlds: a celebrant-led ceremony that brings all the enthusiasm and originality, paired with a registrar to handle the necessary legal aspects.
